Everything you might be wondering about The Ministry of Yarn...
We're still in our first year. Our soft opening was August 30, 2025, and we've been getting better every day since!
Naturally--what's a yarn shop without classes to learn what you can make with all that gorgeous yarn? We know we've been saying "classes will start soon" since day 1, but June 2026 is looking like it's for real. From beginners who've never picked up sticks before to experienced makers looking to try new techniques, we'll offer in-person, hands-on instruction in our dedicated classroom. Need a private lesson? We'll do that, too!
Absolutely! Along with yarn and classes, community is an essential element to a local yarn shop. We call it Social Stitchin'! We have a comfy space to gather in to chat, share projects, get advice and inspiration, and make new yarn-loving friends. The "living room" is always open, and specific Social Stitchin' times each day are posted on our homepage.
Of course—we love problem solving! We'll first triage the situation to determine whether it can be resolved on the spot, or if it warrants scheduling a one-on-one lesson.
The shop offers yarn and tools for knitting and crochet from brands that aren't sold at big box craft stores. Think: natural fibers and carefully chosen synthetic blends at a variety of price points, high-quality needles, hooks, and notions, plus yarn-adjacent accessories and gifts. We're proud to offer many items made by other small businesses and independent makers!
We currently offer yarns from Berroco, Cascade, Ella Rae, Fibra Natura, Great Adirondack, Juniper Moon Farm, KFI Collection, Laines de Nord, Lang, Lucci, Noro, Queensland, Symfonie, Universal, West Yorkshire Spinners, Wonderland, Wool Addicts, and Yarnalia. Our needles and hooks are from Addi, Knit Pro, Prym, Clover, and Susan Bates.
Yes we will, maybe toward the end of 2026. You'll be able to shop online 24/7, and either have your order shipped to you, or pick it up in-store during business hours if you live nearby or will be passing through the area.
At least in the beginning, we plan to stick with what we know, and that's knitting and crochet. However, if enough of our customers express interest in other yarn crafts (spinning, embroidery, etc.), we may expand our offerings down the line.
We'd love to talk to you more about that. Please use the Contact Us form at the bottom of this page to start the conversation.
Yes, we love to see young people taking up fiber crafts. The minimum age for our classes will be 8 years old. As well, the kid needs to (1) have the dexterity to tie their own shoelaces, (2) have the patience to stick with an activity that takes time and practice to show real progress, AND (3) be highly motivated to learn the craft.
Yes indeed! Got a big shawl and not enough room to block it, or not enough patience to pin out a long picot edge? Need garment pieces blocked to specific dimensions and seamed together? Ready to give up on a hopelessly tangled hank of yarn, but it's worth too much to just throw away? Unhappy with the way a project turned out, but you'd like to re-use the yarn for something else? We will be able to help you with all these needs, for a fee to be discussed in advance.
Jenno, the owner, sometimes jokes that knitting is one of the official religions of Norway (the other being cross-country skiing). And while we are eager to share the good news of great yarns, no, we're not affiliated with any religion.
